Everyone Deserves a Home mural in San Francisco

In the heart of San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, a neighborhood known for its vibrant resilience, public art is plentiful and a voice of hope and community pride. Among its newest additions is the mural “Everyone Deserves a Home”, located at 730 Eddy Street, a bright and joyful reminder of dignity, belonging, and the power of creativity.

This mural was brought to life through a collaborative effort between DISH (Delivering Innovation in Supportive Housing), the Tenderloin Community Benefit District, and City College of San Francisco, with generous funding support provided by Levi’s. The project reflects a shared mission to uplift the Tenderloin and provide an inspiring visual anchor for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.

Designed and painted by 1AM Projects, the mural radiates positivity with its retro throwback style inspired by the Golden Age of Animation of the 1950s. The central character is a cheerful, cartoon-like house which embodies warmth, safety, and welcome, echoing the neighborhood’s aspiration that every person deserves a place to call home. A smiling sun beams overhead, amplifying the playful spirit and optimism, while the background skyline hints at the unique identity of San Francisco.

Importantly, the design itself was shaped by feedback from neighborhood residents and local businesses, ensuring that the message was not only artistic, but also deeply community-driven. By blending a nostalgic style with a forward-looking message, the mural bridges generations, cultures, and experiences, celebrating the Tenderloin as a neighborhood in recovery, resilience, and renaissance.
